Day 48: Patras. August 18th.

[The next ten posts are just of my Greek holiday - no cycling involved...]

Woke around 11, the lie in was nice. Got up slowly, nibbling on some bread Miles had bought. Nik and Andrew arrived around 1. We got ready, headed into town. Around 2 we stopped in a fancy restaurant and I got an excellent steak salad with leaves, kale, guac etc. It was actually really good. We then wondered a little way into town and got some coffee (they did, I got a smoothie)

It was too hot to explore too much, but we visited a couple of ornate old orthodox churches, which were super cool. Then we went back to the house, got ready for the beach, and Nik drove us out. It was a super small pebble beach with a bar on it. We got a beer, complete with some free oregano crisps, and went for a swim. Then we waited about an hour to get another beer. I had to go up and ask in the end. That delayed us a little.

We found a gyro around 10. The first two places Nik had checked had been closed. The food was good, and 'cause Nik was there we got the cheaper Greek prices! It took a while to get our food once again though... We headed back to our houses to freshen up, then off to Rio (the Greek one) to a club. This kind of clubbing involved standing at a table drinking very strong, very expensive, rum and cokes. It was fun enough, but little chance to meet people. Matt became obsessed with a woman behind him who he thought looked like Camilla. We also met a couple of Nik’s friends in passing.

At one point the police drove past and they shut all the music off! It was odd. Nik wanted to go to a better club next, but it was “full”. Instead we sat by the sea while they smoked. Miles got soaked by a rogue wave.

We drove to a nearby van, and me, Matt and Miles got souvlaki sandwiches which we ate by the sea under the bridge. I lost an odds on with Andrew for submerging myself in the water but Nic wouldn’t allow me in the car if I did. Lame.

After that we went home, then off to sleep.
