Day 5: Versailles, July 6th, very few km.

A rest day today.

I woke around 9:30, just as Thomas got back from picking up his military passport. We breakfasted together – baguette and muesli. After that we drove out to sort out some practical things. We tried in vain to buy a replacement pole. In the end I just gaffa taped it. Hopefully it will hold! I bought a screen protector for my cracked phone [30 euros!], and a new phone mount for my handlebars, which is not as secure or convenient as my last one, but it’ll do. I also bought a sim card from Orange which gives me 35gb of data in Europe per month. Thomas had to use his ID to buy it. Hopefully it works.

When we got back he cooked us a chicken, shallot, cream and spaghetti meal. I had to go out to get the cream (and some beer). It was pretty decent. That was just finished and he is taking a short nap. I don’t blame him. I could do with one too.

We went down into Versailles to see the palace. The queue was far too long. It was already 3:00 and it closed at 5:30. We plan to go down early tomorrow. Instead we went to a museum in an old mansion. It was okay. I’ve seen better. After we got a drink at a local pub/café, but the conversation is really dying. We went to buy a bike from some people outside IKEA. I slept on the way there. The guy selling it was English. He’d cycled London to Paris. His GF was French.

We returned to the flat, worked on our bikes, and have been sitting around. I got a lot sorted today but I kind of regret stopping. Every time I’m not moving or doing something I start missing [...]. I need to keep on moving. It’s the only thing that keeps [...me distracted!]

After that entry I called mum, which made me feel better. Then I went to bed.
