Day 56: Patras, August 26th.

A quiet(ish) day today. We were planning to go to the beach but Nik got scared off by the prospect of rain. Instead we ate some pastries and persuaded him to take us to the Patras Archaeological museum. It was actually one of my favs I’ve been to so far. They had lots of pots (of course) but also tiny items like coins, glass bottles, bronze helmets, armour, swords, an ancient glass multisided dice, and huge detailed mosaics. They also had garlanded skulls and whole skeletal bodies in graves. It was intense, but profoundly interesting.

We then headed to a beach bar in Rio, stopping on the way to get Gyros from “le coq”. I got an unnecessarily big sandwich type thing, but it was super tasty. At the beach bar I got a rich, velvety Viennese cold chocolate. I was a fan but it filled me up. We explored the area and the harbour a little, then went back to prep for a party that evening. Matt decided not to join – fair  - his foot has a nasty blister.

The party was fun. It was right by Nik's. Andrew bought some cheap wine before hand which got him mildly drunk. They had a view of Patras bridge which was lit up the colours of the Ukrainian flag. I drank plenty of rum and coke, ate plenty of crisps, chatted and vibed to Greek music. They also had tasty home-made ice cream cakes.

Later we went to a club – the same one as before – but it was more fun now we were in a big group. I had a couple of drinks, eight euros each, but one of the girls I was dancing with cut me off. I’ve forgotten all their names, but they were nice. One girl, Nicoleta, grabbed me by the shoulders and danced with me. It was all just fun. At about 4am we all went home, and I slept well.
